چکیده
Calibration of MIDI, the Mid-infrared Interferometer for the VLTI MIDI is the MID-infrared Interferometric Instrument at the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). It will perform long-baseline stellar interferometry in the N band (8. . . 13 μm). In the run-up of setting up MIDI, some preparatory tasks had to be solved concerning the calibration of the instrument in the laboratory. Being a crucial sub-system of MIDI, the Internal Delay Line was thoroughly tested in order to characterise its performance. Light sources for different purposes were provided and equipped with appropriate optical layout. Spectral references were also included. The interrelation of a calibrated Internal Delay Line and spectral calibration is presented. For calibration of the instrument during observations, calibrator stars are used. As part of the selection process of suitable objects for a database of such stars, a sub-sample of candidates was checked by interferometric observations in the K′ band (2.0. . . 2.3 μm). Special attention was payed to differential effects in narrow sub-bands. The potential of stellar interferometry is shown in the case of some late type stars. High spatial resolution data were used to constrain model parameters of the circumstellar envelopes of these objects.

MATISSE, perspective of imaging in the mid-infrared at the VLTI
MATISSE is foreseen as a mid-infrared spectro-interferometer combining the beams of up to four UTs/ATs of the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI) of the European Southern Observatory. The related science case study demonstrates the enormous capability of a new generation mid-infrared beam combiner. MATISSE will constitute an evolution of the two-beam interferometric instrument MIDI. MIDI...
متن کاملFirst AU-scale observations of V1647 Orionis with VLTI/MIDI
The young eruptive star V1647 Ori was observed with MIDI, the mid-infrared interferometric instrument at the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI), on March 2, 2005. We present the first spectrally resolved interferometric visibility points for this object. Our results show that (1) the mid-infrared emitting region is extended, having a size of ≈7 AU at 10 μm; (2) no signatures of a close ...

We present a new analysis of the very first mid-infrared N-band long-baseline interferometric observations of an extragalactic source: the nucleus of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 1068, obtained with MIDI (Mid-InfrareD Interferometer), the mid-infrared beamcombiner at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). The resolution of λ/B = 10 mas allows to study th...
متن کاملMid-infrared Interferometry of the Mira Variable Rr Sco with the Vlti Midi Instrument
We present the results of the first mid-infrared interferometric observations of the Mira variable RR Sco with the MID-infrared Interferometer (MIDI) coupled to the European Southern Observatory’s (ESO) Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI), together with K-band observations using the VLTI commissioning instrument VINCI. The observations were carried out in June 2003, when the variability ...

We present interferometric observations of the Be star 51 Ophiuchi. These observations were obtained during the science demonstration phase of the MIDI instrument at the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). Using MIDI, a Michelson 2 beam combiner that operates at the N band (8 to 13 µm), we obtained for the first time observations of 51 Oph in the mid-infrared at high-angular resolution....
